What a sacred heart tattoo means
The sacred heart with flames and thorns stands for devotion, love and sacrifice; it is one of the most enduring traditional designs.
Placement and size
It works best on the chest, which suits wide, symmetrical designs.
Style and how it ages
American traditional uses bold black outlines and a limited palette of red, yellow, green and black. Bold outlines and saturated colour are the reason traditional flash ages so well; expect only a light touch-up after many years.
